Spill About Your Love

Linking up with A. Liz Adventures for her series, Spill About Your L-O-V-E!

She posted 6 questions to answer about your groom, so here we go!

one. Describe your dating life prior to finding your fiance.
I had two boyfriends before I started dating Josh. The first was for 7 months my freshman year of high school and the second was a year and 1/2 the second half of my sophomore year of HS and all of my junior year, we broke up before senior year (thank you Jesus!). A quick story, my last boyfriend and I broke up...while we were on an EIGHT DAY CRUISE TOGETHER. Stupid, stupid, STUPID me for agreeing to go on that trip. We literally got on the boat on Saturday and I looked at him and said "I am breaking up with you the second we get off this boat" BAHAHAHA. So needless to say, that trip was not-so-fun, a lot tears, screaming, anger, all in the middle of the Caribbean and no phone to talk to my mom, goodie goodie gum drops right?!

two. Describe your fiance in one word. How would he describe you.
Josh in one word-- caring.
If he had to pick a word for me I'd say--loving.

three. You had a really silly right. Embarrassing silly. What was it about?
Basically all of our relationship has been long distance except for a couple months at a time and whenever  I was in school and he couldn't come up for the weekend because either I had something to do or he had something to do I would just get so sad and upset...for no apparent reason (other than missing him) and we never really fought about it but I'd just get so quiet and he'd never understand why I was freaking out, bless our souls.

four. In three sentences (and only three), describe where you both hope to be in 5 years.
We hope to be starting our family or have one little one. We hope that Josh will be in his PTA position. We hope that we are enjoying every second of a married life.

five. Tell us something about your fiance that we wouldn't know from reading your blog.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this on the blog before or not but Josh is super talented in the music department. He can rock a piano like nobodies business (oh I LOVE to hear him play!) and he has the voice of a song bird. And can dance, holy smokes can he DANCE! He also knows EVERYTHING about every sport, literally. He is also obsessed with golf and  gets asked all.the.time for golf tips from everyone...I live, eat, and breath golf with that man, haha!

six. What's one thing you never thought you'd do in front of your fiance but you did?
I sing and dance profusely in front of him. And when we first started dating I knew I'd do it at some point...I just didn't know when. But I have been belting tunes and dancing around him for quite some time now. I also sometimes speak in my own made up language (it's weird, I know) and I was never sure I'd do it in front of him...and again, do it all the time and have been...for a long time, ha!

Love you, Colvin!

Wedding Wednesday: Pinterest Inspiration

 photo 83801_ELF_Studio_Tone_Correcting_Powder_F-500x500_zpsead4557f.jpg

I get asked a lot what is the "theme" of our wedding. And I truthfully can't pin down a "theme" to the wedding but our color scheme is deep purple with silver and white accents. We're going for something very elegant and classy with a little bit of a southern twist, because of the beautiful plantation house that is our venue. We want to create a fun atmosphere for our guests to absolutely have the time of their lives at our wedding. We want to celebrate all night long!

Here are some pins on my "The Colvins" board that I've pinned for inspiration for our wedding and making it all come together flawlessly.

These all are pictures from pinterest or etsy and have played a big part in our wedding planning and giving us inspiration for the big day. None of these are exact replicas of what we're doing, because I wouldn't want to give away our big day quite yet, and you never know how everything will come together in the end!

Our wedding day is going to be perfect for us and I truly can't wait...3 months from Friday people!!

Recipe Success

I am so happy to say that my recipe I mentioned on Friday was a success! I haven't done much cooking before I experimenting with recipes so I wasn't exactly sure how this would turn out. But I found a great recipe, followed it, and voila! Delish.

It's a baked pimento cheese dip and it is heaven! Here's what you'll need

 photo 001-13_zps499b7e61.jpg

1 jalapeno (minced & seeded)
1 1/2 cups of mayo
1 (8 oz.) block of pepper jack cheese (shredded)
1 (8 oz) block of extra sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
1/2 (12 oz) jar of roasted red peppers (chopped and drained)
1/4 cup chopped green onions
Garnish: Cilantro (*in the picture it shows parsley flakes, I was going to use those to garnish because I couldn't find cilantro at our grocery store but I tried a different store and found cilantro after I took the picture)

Start by preheating your oven on 350. Stir together the mayo, chopped onions, jalapeno, and red peppers in a large bowl. Stir in cheeses (it's best to grate your cheese yourself because of the consistency but if you'd like to use already shredded cheese, you definitely can). Spoon the mixture into a lightly greased 2 qt. baking dish.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until dip is golden and bubbly. Then garnish!

Eat and enjoy :) (and please excuse my messy pan, rookie mistake!)

If I had to change the recipe ever so slightly for the next time I made it I'd probably do 1 1/4 cup of mayo and bake it the full 25 minutes, but besides that, everything else was great! I took it to my grandparents for fathers day lunch and they devoured it! It's best served with tortilla chips (which we used) or crostini. If you try it, let me know how it turns out!

Date Night With Mom And Dad

I mentioned in a post not too long ago that I spent a Friday night recently with mom and dad. I hadn't done that in years, literally, I'm usually out on my own date night while they are out on theirs. Let me tell you what their date night consist of, grocery shopping at Wal-Mart and out to eat...if it suits you and makes you happy, then do your thang honey!

So that is their date night and I was tagging along. Wal-Mart isn't my favorite place in the world but I knew what I was getting into tagging along with them for the night. I went to the athletic clothes section to look and see if they had any cute tops or shorts. I loathe paying a lot of money to buy clothes I'm going to sweat in, I just won't do it. A few years ago I got some great tanks from Wal-Mart to work out in and I wear them to this day! I didn't see much so I made my way into the women's clothes section. And let me tell you, they had the cutest shorts and tops! They had every color chino shorts you could imagine and I think they were like $12. And they had a few really cute tops, mom and  I may or may not have gotten matching ones in different colors.

They had a big rack of maxi dresses that I stumbled upon and boy oh boy did I hit the jackpot. I found the greatest black maxi dress, I'm talking absolute perfection. It is so sleek and chic and can be dressed up or down. I have been on the hunt for a black maxi for sooooo long now. I also found a peach and white printed one that has braided straps and I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten on that dress. I wore it when mom and I went shopping in Charleston and at least one person in EVERY store we went in told me how cute it was! I was shocked, haha! If only they knew it was from Wal-Mart. Both of these dresses were a whopping $16. And they are so comfortable, they're definitely the softest dresses I own! And I've washed them both twice already and they have held up wonderfully.

No one knows the brand inside your tag unless you tell them...and if you're anything like me, I like to keep people fooled.

Here's to you Wal-Mart! #noshame (I also got this darling mint and sparkly scarf from there too, $6 folks!)

Five on Friday

one.
The weather today feels SO nice! It has been extremely hot in SC the past few days and it's 10 degrees cooler today with a nice breeze, I like it!

two.
I took my girls on a walk this morning and they were extra hysterical. Dixie LOVES to take walks and just gets so excited when I tell her it's time to go on one. Well when we headed out this morning Lily was still a little sleepy and Dixie went up to chest bump her (they do this before every walk, that's how excited they get) and Lily fell right over...that's how tired she was, haha! Then as Lily was laying on the ground composing herself, Dixie bites her on the neck like "come on! get up, let's go!" It was a sweet, innocent bite of course and I laughed so hard! Those pups makes my LIFE, really.

Look at those cuties! #besties They started a new diet plan together the first of June...because they are literally 349375879522679 lbs overweight (thanks dad for feeding them table scraps every.single.day....awful awful awful) but no need to worry, they are getting slim and trim!

three.
I'm trying a new recipe this weekend, I'm going to get the ingredients tonight. It's a baked pimento cheese spread. I had it for the first time when we went to our taste test for the reception at our venue and y'all, I have been DREAMING about this stuff, that's how good it was. So now I'm going to try my hand at it...let's all hope that it tastes as good as the venues.

Baked Tex-Mex Pimiento Cheese Dip Recipe

If it turns out like it's supposed to, you bet your bottom dollar the recipe will be on the blog pronto!

four.
Kelly and her husband, Mark Consuelos are hosting Live today and I am loving it. Love, love, love that show now! I saw now because I just couldn't stand to watch it when Regis was on there, he gets under my skin for some reason or another but I love Kelly and Michael and Michael just so happens to be out today so Mark is filling in.

five.
It's bark in the park this weekend at our local baseball field and I am hoping to get to take Dixie out there to enjoy a nice evening of baseball...because she's a dog and loves baseball? Crazy, I know. And it's Fathers Day this weekend, love you Dad!

Happy weekend friends, enjoy it!

Wedding Wednesday

 photo 83801_ELF_Studio_Tone_Correcting_Powder_F-500x500_zpsead4557f.jpg

101 days.

We're almost under 100 days friends! Crazy talk I tell you. Wedding planning is taking over my life so much so that I'm starting to dream about it at night, bless my soul. A few nights ago I had a dream we got married in this pavilion type thing on the beach...at night...and someone had spray painted my ring gray...and a huge whale came out of the water soaring over the pavilion we were on and crushed the whole wedding. Happy wedding day right? Bahahaha.

Annnnyways, Mom and I tackled some wedding things this past weekend. I had a dress fitting last week and holy smokes folks, it is GORG. My seamstress did such a great job, that woman is a miracle worker I tell you. We bought our guest book, which is very unconventional but I loooove it (don't ask my mom's opinions on it, she hates it). I've ordered my wedding shoes...can you say a very cute pair of Jack Rogers. It's my first pair but I own like 75 of the fake ones (because WHO in their right mind is going to pay $100+ for a pair of real Jack's when you can get identical fake ones for $20 and probably buy one get one half off) and I think I'm going to hate the real ones because I heard they are super uncomfortable but it's for the big day so I'll deal...just don't remind me or mom of the price...we temporarily lost our minds for a moment when we ordered them...all for the love of good wedding photos...right?! We also bought floating candles for the centerpieces and I am working on finishing up the girls bridesmaids gifts...I really want to give it to them like now, but I am doing my best to practice patience.

I started looking up ceremony music yesterday, I think I'm going to be at that for awhile. There are just too many options...and I don't know for sure, but something tells me Josh and I may go around and around with that one for awhile. Josh has his bachelor party booked and I met up with my very wonderful (seriously, I couldn't live without her) MOH last night and we started talking deets for my bachelorette party, wahoo! Which just may happen to end up being the same weekend as Josh's bachelor party which I think will work out well.

I've also started thinking about where I want to have the bridal luncheon for my girls on the day of the wedding. There is this precious cafe close to downtown that I think will be the perfect location. My bridals are a month from tomorrow and holy cow, do you know how soon that will be here?! Do you also know how hot it will be then...makes my heart hurt. The high today is 98...on June 12...can you IMAGINE July 13th in SC?! It's miserable I tell you. I'm going to pray for a cold front from now until then and considering we are starting at 8:30 in the morning, it should only be like 105 degrees instead of the 135 degrees it's liable to be by noon.

My bridal showers start next month and I am so excited! I feel like we've been planning this wedding for 7 million months and now it's time to start celebrating since it's getting so close and I could bust I'm so excited. We ordered a monogrammed chalkboard from Marley Lilly's flash sale last week for our favor table and holy goodness, it's the cutest thing you've ever seen, trust me.

Let's see, I'm trying to rack my brain for anything else that we've accomplished since my last Wedding Wednesday update but I think I've covered it all.

Happy Wedding season!

Interior Designer Lindsay

Do you ever have those times when you are out shopping and see something you just have to have, furniture wise? It might not match anything in your house but the piece is just too cute to pass up and you'll find something for it to go with?

Well I had that happen about 2 months ago when I stumbled upon this turquoise table at a consignment store when my mom and I were out shopping one Saturday. The coffee table was $40...what a steal! I just couldn't pass it up. Mom loved it just as much as I did and I knew it would be so cute in mine and Josh's new place we when got married....wherever or whatever that new place would be. So I bought it, loaded it in the car and brought it home. I didn't really know what to do with it when I got it home but I decided to put it at the foot of my bed for the time being. At the time I had a white and grey striped duvet on my bed and the table looked so precious!

When mom and I went to Charleston a few weekends ago she was looking through the Sunday sales paper as we were driving down and saw that Target had this adorable chevron duvet on sale and it's colors were gray, white, yellow and a blue that looked very similar to the table. Well a little back story, last summer when I bought the striped bedspread, it was because I had spent MONTHS looking for a white and gray chevron one and just couldn't find it anywhere. So I settled on the stripes and really ended up liking it. When  mom showed me this chevron one I just knew I had to have it. Well about a week went by and I thought to myself, I'm about to be moving, my bedspread now is pretty and fairly new, do I really need a new one? Mom had a gift card to Target and shockingly enough, she rarely ever shops there so she gave it to me and told me to go get the bedspread. So I did and when I got it home and on my bed, it was the EXACT blue that my table was. Mom got home and freaked out over how cute it was and demanded that the table had to stay when I moved because she was going to paint my room yellow and "just how cute would that be". I mean, I had to agree with her but no way is that table staying, it's way too cute for me to leave behind, haha!

A little side note, when I took a picture of the table and sent it to Josh before I bought it he replied with "my poor manhood, being taken away" haha.

So point of this post, don't you love it when you get lucky with a purchase and a room comes together better than you could have expected? I hope that this kind of thing takes places many times in the very near future as Josh and I begin to create a home together! I can't wait to see where this little gem ends up in the Colvin house!

Lipstick Queen

Listen up ladies, I have one fabulous product to tell you about today! When mom and I were in Charleston for Memorial Day we stopped at this place called Pink Dot Beauty Bar. One of the guys that worked in there was putting makeup on me left and right..."do you wear bronzer...here try this one...have you heard of this product...what about highlighter....do you wear highlighter...what about this eyeshadow..." I mean just going on and on...very nice and helpful...but I left there with a full face of makeup on
top of what I already had on! Goodness gracious.

Well he came flying at me with this lipstick and I was just like go ahead...might as well put it on me. And thank goodness he did, I finally hit the lipstick jackpot. It's a brand called Lipstick Queen and this guy claims that it's super hard to find in stores, which may be the case but you can find it at lipstickqueen.com. The color I got is called Jean Queen and oh my it is perfect! Such a great color and I absolutely love it! I have a hard time finding a good lipstick that I like because my lips are obnoxiously huge and if you put the wrong color on them...big mistake. But if by chance you get juuuust the right color, bingo! Perfection.

This lipstick stays on forever and it is filled with so many great things for your little lippys and it feels SO good on, very, very hydrating.

If you're in the market for new lipstick I definitely recommend this one!

Why I Hope I Never Stop Blogging

I'm a gal that loves, I'm talking l - o - v - e, loves to reminiscence. I just think it's so fun to look back and think back on things of the past (just ask Josh, I beg him to reminiscence all the time, drives him crazy!). I do this quite often with my blog. I'll sit down from time to time and read back over many of my old posts and drafts that I started but never got around to finishing or never published because I just needed to write them for me.

I get so much joy from going back and reading old posts. They really take me back to the place and time that I was in when I first wrote the post. I especially like looking back on the first of my wedding posts. Even though that hasn't been but 6 months or so ago, just reading over the struggles of finding a venue and the frustration and knowing that we made it through and to see how far we've come, it's a neat road to follow. I love looking at not only how my writing has evolved, but how my life has evolved, changed, and grown from first starting my blog until now. I try to document big life events as well as the small ones, I want to remember it all.

I know that in the future I will continue to love reading old posts and reminiscence about old times. Blogging is such a neat thing, you put yourself out there for others...to encourage, to share, to uplift and all the way you're probably encouraging yourself too. Blogging is an outlet that I'm so glad that I decided to pursue and I hope I keep it up for many years to come. I want to document the rest of our wedding planning, our years as newlyweds, our first home, our first child...everything.

Not only do I love looking back on my old post, I absolutely adore reading others blogs. I literally look forward to checking my blog roll each morning to see what new posts are up! I love connecting with other bloggers, getting new ideas,  and being encouraged by the blog world. It's such a unique and special community.

I love you, blog.

My Take on Wedding Planning

 photo 83801_ELF_Studio_Tone_Correcting_Powder_F-500x500_zpsead4557f.jpg

With our wedding planning in full swing, and thankfully, many things getting checked off the list, I was thinking the other day about wedding planning and my thoughts on it. I never knew what it took to plan a wedding before we got started on ours and oh my goodness, it really is mind boggling. Whenever things get stressful or overwhelming I just remember that in a few months the day will be here and I know it will be perfect because I'll be marrying one sweet, sweet man. And as stressful as it can be, it is also such a joyful time and is so exciting to plan for the greatest day of your life.

First off,
PRAY a lot and be very intentional with your prayers before you start making concrete decisions on things and signing contracts, etc. God and I have had some very in depth talks where I flat out said "Lord show me exactly what kind of wedding path Josh and I need to take, put it right in front of both of our faces". This helped so much in making the final decision of whether we wanted a full blown wedding, destination wedding, eloping, court house, or small ceremony and reception type wedding.

Second,
Do tons and tons of research. If you think you've looked at every option in town/in state...look one more time just to be sure. There are a multitude of venues, photographers, caterers, DJs, florist, bakers, etc out there and you want to make sure you find someone who's work you like, who is inside of your budget and that you think you can work easily alongside with. This is a good time to recruit your mom or close friends to help you search out every place and person in town.

Third,
Set a very distinct budget and stay within in it. When you just set a "round about" figure things start to get sticky...fast. You have to know exactly what you're working with because numbers start adding up quickly.

Fourth,
Keep calm and don't freak out. Or in my case, when you do freak out, sleep on it and you'll wake up feeling much better the next day, I promise. Confide in your fiance when times get tough, you're in this together and you're a team.

Fifth,
Remember that at the end of the day, if you're marrying the one that you love, that is all that matters. I've told Josh numerous times that we could get married in a castle or married in the street and it wouldn't make a difference to me because at the end of the day, I'm going home as his wife and that makes my heart happier than I can even explain.

Sixth,
Enjoy all the moments. Trying on your dress, picking our invitations, deciding on music, tasting your reception food, designing save the dates, every little thing. It's so fun and a time you only get to do once.

I could really keep this list going on for days, but you probably wouldn't want to read all of that ;) So there's my top 6, I hope you find this useful if you are planning a wedding now or planning in the future!
